Now that we have built spaceships, we want to make sure we can take off. During this workshop we focused on creating control panels to help us navigate outer space.

What is a control panel?
The children at this workshop did not understand what "control panel" meant, but the moment we explained that it is the board with all the buttons and different functions, they got to work and put their one-hundred thoughts onto paper — in this case cardboard.

Essentials and Add-ons
Just like it is nice to have a banana handed to you on a long trip as an add-on feature, there are certain things that cannot be excluded from a control panel of a spaceship. Start, stop, land, star-speed, and super-mega-speed are all essentials.
Having a button to press when you want the dog-chair to pop-up is also a nice add-on feature to have, just in case.

Space Robots
Since we are in space, might as well have robots helping out, thought two children. One robot goes around with an instructional video, to show those who do not speak our language. A peaceful way to introduce ourselves, and to show how the spaceship works.

"Aha! This is a map of all the roads and streets." — E, 7
Conventional Maps and Children
During the workshop children were exposed to two large printed maps: of the world, and of Gothenburg city.
This time, a seven-year-old participant found Sweden on the world map. She was very accurately guessing that it would be somewhere North, and pointed on the correct piece of land.
She noticed that these maps had no words or indications of any sort, and that the map of Gothenburg had all the roads and streets on it.
